As I looked out my window this morning, I noticed a large, dark cloud looming behind the big evergreen tree on the front lawn. As I continued to look at the cloud, it became evident that the whole cloud had a glowing outline — something beautiful to behold.
In the saying, "Every cloud has a silver lining", a silver lining is a metaphor for optimism. As I thought about the silver lining, I was reminded about all the silver linings or promises in the Bible, God's Word to us:
When we feel discouraged: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)
When we feel anxious: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6 NIV 2011)
When we feel helpless: But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV)
I went back to the same window and looked at that same cloud. The cloud was now engulfed in total brightness, almost like the sun was now embracing the darkness. It was an amazing picture.
If we are experiencing feelings of doubt, discouragement, anger, or helplessness, isn't it wonderful to know that we are not alone. God promises to be with us in whatever situation we find ourselves in.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for giving us Your promises in the Bible. All we have to do is claim them for ourselves and believe that You are with us always. Amen.

Good Morning Rosemary
Just a note to say “Thank You” for your thoughts expressed in the devotional today. These “gentle” reminders of His love and compassion are much appreciated and so needed. Thanks again.
Blessings.
Good thoughts Rosemary,
We have had many dark rain clouds this spring but the gardeners of our complex saw to it that we would have many silver linings despite the storms. Our complex might well be a garden of Eden. It is so nice to see all the plants, trees and hedges over which so much effort was expended repaying in such a beautiful way. In the same way once the dark clouds of sin are forgiven the bright spring of forgiveness is there to cheer us.
Blessings.
Dear Rosemary,
Thank you for your beautiful “word pictures” and for the encouraging verses.
Your chosen verses reminded me of the Apostle Paul’s words: “I thank my God every I time remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being reminded of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ ” (Philippians 1:3-6 NIV).
Keep writing.
Thank you Rosy. You always write wonderful and God inspired devotionals.
Thank you Rosemary — a very thoughtful devotional. Amen.

You don’t know how fitting for me is your devotional today. It’s not that I am downcast or doubting, just a little uncertain. Your quotes were perfect in aid to me, and I thank you, and thank God for you.

Dear Rosemary,
Thank you for the encouraging “pictures,” and words of Scripture.
Your quotes remind me of the amazing breadth of the Apostle Paul’s prayer, “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all of my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:3-6).
May God continue his good work in you. Keep writing.
