During one of my recent, frequent forays into composition, I became situated, not for the first time, in a position whereby I needed to access what I had produced before all my presumed improvements had overwritten it. My dilemma was how to return to my previous thoughts and reasonings after I had decided that the new ones were not even vaguely projecting what I had originally planned.
The computer offers an escape, the opportunity to close the file, with the warning that additions will not be saved. I followed that avenue and was pleased to find my file reset, and I was back in the mindset in which I had started off in the first place. God had returned me to my basic plan, without punishment for going astray.
Computer parlance closely parallels the guidance provided by our God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, Whom He promised would guide us and comfort us throughout our walk and our goal to be nearer to God.
Escape is a very simple and basic technical way to correct what we thought would have improved our words to the world — what we had said beforehand — and to bring us back to where we had intended to be in the first place. It's a fast way to delete all the nonsense that we thought was important and had merit before, because we, with God's input, have decided that it is not really what we wanted.
We've lost our way, and we want to start again. But we must revert to the previous page and refresh it. In the case of personal relationships, we must apologize and ask for forgiveness. The best part is that if we make a mistake, we need only ask God for forgiveness and He will send the Comforter to reboot us and allow us to start again with a clean slate — and with no cookies attached!
Psalm 25:18 – Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins. (KJV)
Psalm 4:1 – Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. (KJV)
To refresh frequently in our everyday life, through reading the Bible and devotionals daily, is the way to be sure that we are receiving confirmation from God through the Holy Spirit, Who might point out where we have gone wrong, as well as what path to take from now on. But He also shows where we have made good decisions and simply need to reboot to make them stick.
A recent devotional shows that this frequently happens through what are called "God winks". He shows us, when we are quiet and listening, what He wants us to do. His messages are often downright amazing, and sometimes duplicated in other forms, just to make sure that we get it.
Let us refresh, reset, and enter into a life of certain joy and rewards unlimited, towards God's promised answers to good faith, through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, may we implicitly understand how Your plan for our salvation, and the daily walk that we must take to follow that path in faith, is the only way to reach our goal to bring glory to You. Open our ears and eyes, within Your wonderful peace, so that we can be assured that we are walking on the path that You want us to take. Amen.

Thank you.
Thanks Deana for the good word.
Deana, it was lovely to open my computer this morning and see your devotional greeting me! A wonderful way to start my day. It is a wonderful point that you have made in this devotional – how we all need to refresh and get back to our Source – our Lord and Savior.
Hi Deana,
Thank you for a really enjoyable devotional. You drew some excellent compairsons. I also agree heartily with this sentiment:
To refresh frequently in our everyday life, through reading the Bible and devotionals daily, etc.
For more years then I can remember I have read Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening, Oswald Chambers My Utmost for His Highest and Andrew Murray’s Best on Prayer every day, and I am still finding hidden treasure.
Again: Thank you for an delightful devotional.
Dear Deana,
