Spring Is In The Air

Revelation 21:5 – And He Who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." (NASB)

I love spring! Where we live, we are surrounded by trees, and it is amazing to watch the leaves come out. Over the last few days, the trees have changed from bare to almost-filled with green leaves again. We are also fortunate to have thousands of trilliums on our property. This year, there are so many of them that it is almost like a white carpet covering everything. As I drive along the sideroads, the yellow blooms of the marsh marigolds are everywhere. Since we moved here, I have started to plant perennials in my gardens, and I love how they come up again and again every year. I love to go out each day and check my garden and see what else is coming up. I love spring!

I was thinking about our lives as I was driving to do my grocery shopping and looking at all the new growth everywhere. What a wonderful promise we have in spring! New life is everywhere. Even though everything dies in the winter, in spring, it all comes back to life. What a promise!

It is much like the promise of eternal life for those who believe in the Lord Jesus and accept Him as their personal Saviour. Even though our bodies die, we will be resurrected and brought back to life. We will live forever in the presence of our holy God.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (NASB)

So, too, we can live new lives now. When we accept Jesus as our Saviour, we turn from our old ways and become new and holy people. We have been washed clean from our former sins and can now live by the power of God's Holy Spirit living in us.

1 Corinthians 6:11 – But you were washed clean (purified by a complete atonement for sin and made free from the guilt of sin), and you were consecrated (set apart, hallowed), and you were justified [pronounced righteous, by trusting] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God. (AMP)

What difference should this make in our lives? What kind of people ought we to be? The apostle Paul wrote:

Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Christ: and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me. (NASB)

Do our lives as Christians show our gratitude to the One who paid the price for our salvation? We owe our lives to Him. Whether they know it or not, those around us are being influenced by what we say and do. Are we living as "the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14 NASB) and showing God's love to a hurting world? Do others see Christ in us?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we marvel and are amazed at how the earth comes back to life each spring. We marvel and are amazed that You have loved us so much that You gave Your only Son to die on the cross for our sins so that we can come back to life even now as the new creations that we have become in You. We marvel and are amazed that because Jesus has risen from the dead, we, too, can have eternal life and live with You forever. Bless us as we seek to leave our old ways behind and live our lives serving You and others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
