Proverbs 18:10 – The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. (NIV)

When we moved to our acreage, there were a number of outbuildings that we weren't sure we really wanted to keep. One of them was a tall, three-sided structure which had been used for boat storage. We decided that this one would definitely have to go, until a neighbour convinced us otherwise. He remarked that we just never knew when we might need it.

Thankfully, we listened to his advice, for that old boat shed has become a strong tower of safety for our ponies amidst seasonal storms. Whether it rains or snows, sleets or blows, Frankie and Jennie find safety within. It provides warmth in the winter and shade in the summer, as well as nourishment, for it was the perfect place to install both their feeding and watering tanks.

Likewise, the name of the Lord is a strong tower for those of us who trust in His power and love. When life's storms come our way, He is always there to protect us, if only we will run to Him. His Word offers nourishment and refreshment, as it has the power to guide and direct, heal and encourage, strengthen and rebuke. His Spirit also guards our hearts, minds, and souls as well as our thoughts, tongues, and actions, as we choose to submit and obey, allowing us to ride the storms out with patience, peace, and grace.

The storms of life cannot be avoided; we must all experience them. Neither can we always know when or where they may strike. But according to Scripture, we can and do know what to do amidst them, for the name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

The question is: who are you running to right now amidst any storms which may be going on in your life?

Prayer: Thank You, God, that amidst the storms of life, You can be counted on to be there for us in whatever ways we may need You. You, the Lord, are a strong tower to whom we can run and find safety within. In Christ's name, we praise You. Amen.
