Entangled In The Snares Of Life

My wife is very skilled at crocheting, and she produces colourful shawls and baby blankets for charity. I'm amazed at how quickly she manufactures these works of art.

Often, however, she runs into difficulty with the wool becoming ensnared and knotted up in the middle of her project. That's where I come in — the expert untangler. I weave the wool in and out, and usually within an hour, I get the knots out, putting it down as mental therapy. Then I proudly display the neatly wound ball I've created to my wife, and she is pleased!

Life has its entanglements, as the apostle Paul wrote:

Galatians 5:1 – Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (NKJV)

After I received Jesus thirty years ago, I proceeded to remove the snares which were bondages in my life. One of them was alcohol; the other, smoking. Letting go of alcohol was easy, because I never was much of a drinker. I recall pouring a case of twenty-four beers down the basement drain. What a frothy mess that was!

However, the smoking habit was hard to shake. I engaged the Holy Spirit and with much prayer and denouncement, I was eventually delivered. Subsequently, I was able to undo other entanglements in my life, as I gained experience in getting the knots out.

Just as my wife is pleased when I untangle her wool, so is the Lord when we let go of our past worldly snares. He then rewards us with an increased anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, set us free from those former practices and vain belief entanglements that prevent us from growing spiritually in Your love. Amen!
