Ephesians 5:15 – Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise. (NRSV)

My old car is acting its age. I never know if it will start. The trips to the licensed mechanic have been helpful.

I find my own old life is also in need of continued service — in God's Word. I read the "manual" for how to live — whether in an inner storm or an outer conflict.

So helpful is a daily update on the "mechanics" of how to live, what to avoid, how to avoid it, and what to do when the unavoidable comes along.

Just like cars need maintenance and many times emergency "cranking", our spirits need refreshing reminders on how to live: making the most of the time, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to the ears of the Lord in thanksgiving and praise, and being careful how we live.

Prayer: Our Lord and God, thank You for revealing to us how to live our lives, and for giving us the aid we need for our spiritual journey. Thank You for the riches in Christ available to all who ask for Your will in Your name. Amen.
