1 Thessalonians 3:9 – How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you? (NIV)

I heard the bangs of fireworks in my room. The city is celebrating Canada Day with a display of fireworks after sundown.

Colours burst into the air in all shapes and forms. Laughter echoes, rising with each display. The handlers of the display get applause from the appreciative crowd.

Everyone enjoys the magical explosives, dancing and swirling against the dark sky. The grand finale presents a gorgeous burst of lights and a huge volume of sound.

As I watch the display, I remember walking into a church I had never been in before, where I experienced just such a feeling. The welcome was explosive; the handshakes were friendly; the service was uplifting; and the prayers were deeply moving! How can I thank God enough for His people?

My soul is fired with thanksgiving and bursting with joy! I look up in awe for more of the sparkling exhibit — and imagine what fireworks must look like in heavenly places, in the very presence of Almighty God.

Prayer: God of Christians, how can we be thankful enough for You? We gather at Your feet to receive Your blessings to us. May Your Holy Spirit fill us here on earth with a taste of heaven and of Your awesome holiness and might. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
