Listen to this devotional:
I'm a newsaholic. It's not unusual for our TV to be on CNN in the middle of the day. But everything is different… Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Tunisia. The people are overthrowing their dictators, they are led by unknown people, and they are being maimed and killed for something so important to them that they believe the sacrifice is worth it. It is also very easy for us to get emotional about the situation because for bad or good, with our recent immigration policies, it is likely that we have had contact with someone in our community with roots in these places.
It is enough to send me to sections of my Bible that I don't study that often, especially Daniel. I could not understand all of the prophecies, but I did understand God's caring for all of us at this time and His instructions to Daniel to "go your way", perhaps another way of saying "let it go":
Daniel 12:8,9 – And I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, O my Lord, what shall be the issue and final end of these things? And he (the angel) said, Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end. (AMP)
So even though I will keep my TV on a news station to know what is happening, and even though I will continually pray for those people in Northern Africa and the Middle East, I will acknowledge that God is in control. He will keep me and my family safe, and when the big one comes or things come to the end, we will already be safe with Him.
Daniel 12:1 – And at that time of the end, Michael shall arise, the great (angelic) prince who defends and has charge of your (Daniel's) people. And there shall be a time of trouble, straitness, and distress such as never was since there was a nation till that time. But at that time our people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the Book (of God's plan for His own). (AMP)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, let us know that You are in control. May we "let it go", just as You told Daniel, with the reassurance that all is well and planned long before we were born. Praise be to You, O God. Amen.
