Listen to this devotional:

We are creatures of habit. We get up at the same time every day. We go through the routine of washing, brushing our teeth, getting dressed, eating breakfast. We go to work at the same time, come home for supper at the same time, and watch the news on the same channel at the same time every night. Life is good that way. There is nothing wrong with habits.

Another good habit is reading our Bible daily. God does want a relationship with us. He does want to communicate with us. Reading His Word daily is one way that He can do that. Praying is a way that we can communicate with our Father. It takes two to build a relationship.

Isaiah 34:16a – Search the book of the Lord, and see what He will do. (NLT)

1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray constantly. (HCSB)

There are times when I am so rushed that I neglect reading a portion from God's Word. Sometimes as I'm about to rush out the door, I stop, make myself sit down, and read a few verses, because I know I should — after all, I want to be obedient. Most times when I am reading out of duty, I hear nothing from my Father who so longs to speak to me.

Other times, I plan to take time to read my Bible — no timeframe attached. I ask Him to speak to me. Oh! The joy of spending time in the Lord's presence on those occasions!

Let's set spending time with our Lord and Saviour, with our Father, as a priority in our lives — stemming from a heart that yearns for a close relationship with the One who loves us with an everlasting love and longs for that relationship as well.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, so many times, we don't know deep in our hearts that You long for a sweet relationship with us. So many times, we are too busy to listen to Your whispers to our souls. Forgive us, we pray. Help us to stop and really listen to You. Help us to know that we need You speaking to us, letting us know that You love us, You accept us, You forgive us, You heal us, You comfort us, You strengthen us. Amen.
