Rejoice!

Listen to this devotional:

Psalm 118:24 – This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (NIV)

Woke up this morning — the sun is shining … the sky is blue with puffy white clouds … nice temperature … the soybeans and corn are growing … the flowers are blooming. Rejoice!

Woke up this morning — the sun is shining … the sky is blue … it's hot already … the grass is dormant … the flowers are thirsty … we need rain. But, I won't have to mow this week, I can water the lawn and flowers if I want, and I can turn on the air conditioner for my own comfort. Rejoice!

Woke up this morning — the sun is shining … the sky is blue … it's hot, hot, hot and very dry … still need rain. But this, too, is a day the Lord has made, and I will rejoice!

Woke up this morning — it's raining. Rejoice! Praise the Lord!

Woke up this morning — the sun is shining … the sky is blue … the air is crisp … autumn has arrived, and the leaves are beautiful. Rejoice!

Woke up this morning — it's sunny, cold, and windy; it snowed overnight, and the driveway will have to be cleaned again (for the fourth time in three days). But I've got a warm home, warm clothes, food to eat, books to read, and a snowblower. Rejoice!

Woke up this morning — it's still winter, the snow is dirty, it's grey and cold and icy. But we're 90 days closer to spring, and it's fun to watch the birds at the feeders. Rejoice!

Woke up this morning — the sun isn't shining, but I see the promise of spring in the buds on the trees and the flowers beginning to poke through the mulch. Rejoice!

Every day is a gift from God. Some days, it's easier to rejoice than others, but God, who creates every day, also created us. He is our Father; we are His children. God has promised He is always with us; He loves us; He knows our needs; and He wants us to seek Him out.

On those days when it's hard to rejoice and God seems far away, who do you think has moved?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear God, help us to rejoice in each day. Amen.
