2 Corinthians 9:15 – Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (NASB)
This Scripture verse regarding God's indescribable gift has been written on every card my sister has sent or given to me my whole life — not just at Christmas, but on other occasions as well. I have often wondered what the real significance of this passage of Scripture is to her, enough to have repeated it so many times.
She is talking about a free gift! Who wouldn't want that? This gift is Jesus Christ Himself! We find this fact written in Scripture:
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV)
Not only are we promised the gift of God's Son, but of eternal life as well.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NASB)
What's so great about this gift is that we don't have to try and earn it.
Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (NKJV)
Have we received these gifts? They can't be ours unless we receive them. Christmas is a great time to accept them: Jesus Christ, and His eternal life as well.
2 Corinthians 9:15 – Thank God for this gift, his gift. No language can praise it enough! (MSG)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the gifts You have so freely offered to all of us. Please help those who have not received these gifts to do so today. In Jesus' holy and precious name, we pray. Amen.
