John 6:35 – And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." (NKJV)
Like other diabetics, in order to keep the symptoms of diabetes under control in my body, many are the foods I no longer eat. My diet and shopping consists of "yes" versus "no" foods. In my heart and mind, they are truly the choice of "Jesus" foods versus "Barabbas" foods, meaning "life" or "death" to me. Good news! The "yes" foods — fresh vegetables, fruit, a little meat, fish, and dairy — have intensified in flavour as never before in my life. I'm delightfully amazed!
My own choice "no" foods, starchy, deep fried and fast foods (obviously sugars in any form) and bread are indeed death to the success of my particular quest. Initially, no bread was a huge discipline. However, I happily, willingly forego the "no" foods for the joy, freedom, and life set before me each day. Other rewards are the results of my daily blood tests — continually registering in the low fours — and the positive results of the intermittent pathology tests. The medical team says all these results are "higher than excellent" — such a worthy description of our Jesus Lord!
Yes, the Lord, our "bread of life" is assisting me through His Word, His grace-given determination, and strengthening joy, which is bringing about my healing, by dealing with the root cause: my previous lack of discipline in choices.
At this stage of my healing, there is a significant reduction in medication, so I can and do declare, "I am a recovering diabetic," though I believe with all my heart through Jesus continually working with me, in me, that in the future, I will be enabled by Him to declare, "I am now living as a recovered diabetic." Thanks and praise to the Lord Christ of all glory!
Before August last year, I believed I'd be living with diabetes, plus heaps of medication, for the rest of my life.
But oh my, what glorious freedoms we can live in as believers! Our Lord Christ, the bread of life, the very Word of God Himself, is the heavenly "yes" food, which has turned around and renewed my thinking and believing. Hallelujah!
We can feed on Jesus every day of our lives, with the promise that when we believe, we will never hunger and thirst again. This is our "yes" food of the highest excellence, and He gives it freely!
May we ever offer back to Him an enormously healthy appetite for His bread of life every single day.
Prayer: Thank You, our loving Lord, for every perfect provision and blessed rewards from Your Word: thirty-, sixty-, or a hundred-fold by Your excellent grace working in our lives. May we ever seek and worship You for who You are, and search Your Word for all Your generous and free resources. In Your lovely healing name, we pray. Amen and Amen!
