Access Denied

Listen to this devotional:

Matthew 16:19 – And that's not all. You will have complete and free access to God's kingdom, keys to open any and every door: no more barriers between heaven and earth, earth and heaven. A yes on earth is yes in heaven. A no on earth is no in heaven. (MSG)

I am always up for something new, going back to school at the age of… well, let's not go there; let's just say that things have changed a lot. I am in the classroom for most classes, but I also have online classes. In this type of learning, we don't meet or go into the classroom until it is time to write the exam, which in this case is twelve weeks from now. So here I find myself sitting all alone at a kitchen table, trying to ignore the distractions of a home and family who are right in the other room.

One assignment that I am working on requires me to enter into a section of the course that the teacher has set up for us. Well, it is Wednesday, and each time that I click on this site, across my computer screen flashes "Access denied." I then go to the help section of this course on my computer and type a message to the teacher to let her know that I still cannot get into this site. As I post my message to the teacher, I see a message from another student, "Access granted."

My first thought was, How come she was able to get in and I am not? So I went back and tried again, and yes, my message was still "Access denied." This got me thinking, Did she do something different that I didn't know about? How come others in the class have not posted their success or struggles of getting in?

This got me thinking even further about my walk with the Lord. Because I have received Jesus into my life, my sins are forgiven, and my access to heaven is promised in today's Scripture. But oh! how I don't want to be standing before Him when He calls my name and have Him ask me why or how I have denied Him in my life, or worse, that access to heaven is denied for friends of mine because I didn't witness to them. I want Him to say:

Matthew 25:21 – Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we praise and thank You that our sins have been forgiven. Lord, help us daily to walk in this freedom and to spread Your love to all we meet. It is in Your wonderful and holy name that we pray. Amen.
