Listen to this devotional:

As often as my name is called, used, or written, there is no godly power in it to overcome any dark besetting negatives or sickness in others or myself.

Jesus warned His disciples, "without Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5b NKJV)

However, the great news is that as I live and go forth in the name of Jesus and His Spirit, I am amazingly blessed as I witness the overcoming of those dark negatives as I pray in various situations in the all-powerful name of Jesus, which He clearly commissioned His disciples to do.

What I love about Jesus' commissions, commands, and callings in His Word is that He adequately equips us to do them and that they are exceedingly practical when obeyed and used in our everyday lives.

Jesus promised His disciples:

Mark 16:17a,18b – And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will… lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. (NKJV)

Acts 1:8a – But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. (AMP)

When I was visiting my daughter a few weeks ago, she suddenly became so fevered and bilious that she had to lie down. Through the Holy Spirit's gift of discernment, I became unmistakably aware of the agitation and distress accompanying her physical symptoms.

As usual, we began the day with prayer and anointing ourselves with oil, setting ourselves apart to God for His kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy to be flowing through us throughout the day.

Also, because of this agitating distress, in the name of Jesus, I rendered powerless and banished all possible works of the devil in and around the home and my daughter. I touched her and asked Jesus for His healing.

What happened? We have learned that the results of prayers and obedience to God's Word are best left to Him, in His perfect timing. God's results do vary, but we know that they are always His best for us. We waited in quiet, trusting belief.

Ephesians 6:13b – Stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. (AMP)

In a few moments, the distress and agitation left Sharon, and minutes later, she sat up tentatively, then more positively, and nodded her acknowledgement of the healing — no great drama, no hyped-up performance, no flashing lights, no disturbing manifestations. Our wonderful Jesus Lord came in love and quiet glory with His healing touch in the time of need, prayer, and the obedience of His two daughters.

This was doing God's Word, not hearing it only.

James 1:22 – But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth]. (AMP)

For me, it is ever a practical, joyful, expedient, awesome privilege to speak, testify, teach, write, and to pray for people in the power and authority of the name and Spirit of the King of kings, and with heart-filled praise of His mighty name.

There is strength in the name of the Lord.
There is power in the name of the Lord.
There is hope in the name of the Lord.
Blessed is she/he, who comes, in the name of the Lord.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your all-empowering name, Spirit, and Word, in which each believer is at liberty to live and move and have our being fruitfully and practically, because You, our Lord Christ, do dwell in us. Amen and Amen!
