Matthew 7:7 – Ask and it will be given you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (NIV)
Acts 17:27 – God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each of us. (NIV)
When Cub Scouts once met in my yard, a "busy-work scheme" was letting the boys search for four-leaf clovers. Early on, this would fascinate them, until one would decide this assignment was busy-work and refuse to be conned. Now and then, one of them would actually find a four-leaf clover.
Once the boys found out that there really were four-leaf clovers, the hunting turned into an adventure. Those with four leaves are hard to find, but once one is found and faith established, more of them have a way of showing up.
It takes faith to pursue mysteries. Once the boys were convinced that what they were seeking existed, it became a challenge. According to the Irish, finding a four-leaf clover is rumoured to bring "good luck". For mystery seekers, it provides a challenge. For truth seekers, it brings to mind today's Scripture, "Seek and you will find."
Matthew 6:33 – But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. (KJV)
Even in our spiritual quests, finding that the answers exist gives us faith to pursue our search. It becomes an adventure once our spiritual eyes are opened and our faith grows strong. Instead of giving up, we become eager to keep looking for that rare "fourth leaf". It just may be in the patch nearby!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, make us seekers of Your truths, and grant us courage to continue until Your ways and Your truths are found. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
