John 4:13-14 – Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (NIV)
As I was out walking the dogs the other day, I was amazed at the amount of snow still covering the heights. Indeed, as spring has made way for summer, the mountain runoff continues to water the valleys below. The snow-capped peaks refresh the streams and creeks, the ponds and lakes, the valleys and ditches. The soil is enriched. The foliage grows lush and dense. The creatures are fortified and strengthened. The life-giving water keeps on giving and giving.
Such meditation led me to consider that those who make and take the time to drink deeply of the Living Water, Jesus Christ, are also able to keep on giving and giving. In dwelling upon the truth of who Christ is and what He has done and continues to do for us, our minds are strengthened and refreshed with praise and thanksgiving.
Upon applying His word and ways to our everyday lives, we are empowered by His holiness and love — never-ending love that ripples out from our good deeds, like the waves upon a pond after one has skipped a stone across its surface, blessing all in its path.
Often within our busy lives and hectic schedules, we become weary and parched for rest and renewing. How good it is to know that Living Water is always available — the Living Water of Christ, who not only quenches our parched lives here and now, but has become in us a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, may we and others this day experience the refreshing, life-giving waters of Your love through each and every one of us, as we take the time to drink deeply of You, the Living Water. Refresh us now, Lord Jesus; fill us anew. In Christ's name. Amen.
