Listen to this devotional:
Even though I have quite a substantial biblical study library, last year I treated myself to a new, rather expensive, but very extensive computer Bible program. It has so many Bible versions, all at my fingertips as I study, as well as commentaries, sermons, topics, and books of famous Christian authors. I love it! It ever freshly feeds me without my having to search my library. Thank you Lord, very much! I am still "right at home" with my Amplified Bible for my personal reading. Yet no matter what Bible versions, libraries, or study aids I may have at my disposal, the most important questions for me are, "Do I read believing?" and "Do I believe these are the actual words of God?"
Hebrews 3:12 – [Therefore beware] brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him], leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God. (AMP)
We can know that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, simply because it contains the actual promises that He has given to us, to which He is unfailing, always faithful, and trustworthy in keeping those promises. His faithfulness to those promises proves that He is "the living God".
This phrase, the living God, appears over thirty times in the Bible, which serves as an excellent reminder to us that God is alive, breathing, active, all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful, and everywhere present. When reading the Bible, if we are focused on this truth that He is indeed the living God, yes, we can and do read believing that these are the actual words of God.
I know when I read believing, not only my devotional time, but also my day, and my life become so dynamically channelled into God's fruitfulness and fullness of His purposes for me.
Let us keep in mind that our God is the same living God He always has been through all eternity — past, present, and future — as well as being the living Word: "You have been born again not from some seed that will decay, but from one that cannot decay, through the living Word of God that lasts forever. (1 Peter 1:23 CJB – Complete Jewish Bible)
He still exercises the same sovereign power to fulfil His promises in our lives. It has not diminished one little bit over the millennia. He is the same God of love. He will do for His children all that He has ever done for His children. He is the unchanging One, the Holy One, the only God we should read, love, serve, worship and believe.
He will never fail us in any way that He has promised. Even in our hardest tests, trials, difficulties, fears, deepest poverty, or greatest losses of loved ones, properties, or possessions, He alone is the living God of all we are, and ever will be; the living God of all we have, and ever will have. Do we believe? Do we read believing? Do we live believing Him?
Prayer: Yes, Lord, I do! Living God above all gods, thank You that through Your Holy Spirit, we are continually led into all truth, and that You bring us to the place where we can read believing Your every word to us. Thank You, our sovereign, living God, that as we trip those principles in Your living Word, we become people of the highest principle. In Your magnificent holy name, thank You. Amen and Amen!
