Ephesians 6:13-15 – Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. (NIV)
A little girl came to my husband and questioned the chain he had around his neck. The chain bore a cross, which was tucked under his shirt. When he lifted the cross out into full view, she remarked, "Oh, you have your church jewellery on."
We had a laugh, but thinking later, we concluded that she was right in what a young child would say! Besides, it was the cross of Christ who is the head of the Church, the body of Christ.
Now for a quick change in our thinking — to our Scripture for today. We are called to put on the full armour of God. Even though it might not show, it is something we should always put on to face the day, which might find us encountering Satan.
We must always be prepared to face difficulties, dressed with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the boots of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.
Prayer: Most gracious heavenly Father, we come before You this day, giving thanks for the gifts You give so freely. May we be prepared on all occasions by wearing our church jewellery. Even if it doesn't show, may we have it in mind, so that we can stand firm against Satan's attacks. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
