Colossians 1:16 – For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities. (NIV)
When I buy a program for my computer, the first thing I do is read the instruction manual. The one who wrote the program knows best how it works, because it is his creation. The same is true in discovering the purpose for my life. I need to ask the One who created me. My Creator did not leave me in the darkness to search and speculate. He revealed His purpose through His owner's manual: the Bible. It tells me His purpose for my life, how to achieve it, what to avoid, and what to expect. God is not just the starting point of my life; He is the source of it.
He knew me before I was born, while I was being formed in the womb. Would He have formed me without making plans for my future life?
Isaiah 44:22a – I have swept away your offences like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. (NIV)
Many earthly fathers fail to acknowledge or accept their creations. This is not true with God. There are many illegitimate parents. There are no illegitimate children. God never creates a life by accident. If a life is conceived, it is for a purpose.
God created each of us because He loved us. Love is the essence of His character. He didn't need to create us because He was lonely — He created us because He loved us and wanted to see us grow and prosper. His instruction manual — the Bible — tells us how.
Prayer: Lord, we recognize You as the writer of the Book. Guide and direct us, page by page, as we study the instruction manual You have prepared for us. Show us Your reason for our being here, and the direction You would like for us to go. Give us a hunger for Your Word and the knowledge to apply it to our daily lives. In Your name we pray. Amen.
