Taadficu

John 14:27b – Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] (AMP)

The World Health Organization works hard to keep us aware of the latest flu epidemic possibilities. We are cautioned to get the flu shot, wash our hands to a couple of choruses of "Happy Birthday", stay away from crowds, and sneeze into our elbows.

These things, however, won't prevent the spread of the more deadly flu strain, taadficu. Taadficu is more virulent than any other virus. Jesus describes it in today's verse. This flu affects personal peace and occurs every time we forget to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7b).

Taadficu is an acronym that stands for troubled, afraid, agitated, disturbed, fearful, intimidated, cowardly and unsettled. Some people call them "the Do Nots". Heart-washing is the only cure.

A-choo! Oh, was that you? Or me? There's only one way to get rid of this flu. Are you having any of the symptoms? They keep showing up in me, but the more I practice keeping my mind on Christ, the more likely I am to avoid the infection. Try it. It's more pleasant than shots, chapped hands, or elbow sneezing.

Prayer: Father God, we certainly know better than to step into patterns of behaviour like this. When we let our guard down, though, help us not to spread the virus, but instead, to remember the cure. Amen.
