John 8:32 – Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (NIV)

"House church", or as others would call it, "prayer/Bible study group", was at my home these past few weeks. I had had knee surgery, and it was a bit hard for me to get around. It was our sharing night. Each one would bring something to share: a Scripture, or a devotional, or a good healthy snack.

We began to discuss things of a personal nature. We opened ourselves to each other in ways that we had done so many times before, but I hadn't given it much thought, because the group had been together for twenty years. We were like the early church. We have met on a regular basis for a time of fellowship.

During our time of sharing, I mentioned that I had been asked by someone from church what I was going to do when I would be off work for so long. Mine was a total knee replacement, so it would be a while. After this question had been asked, another lady spoke right up and blurted out, "She's going to write."

I had to confess to my group that I hadn't done a thing, but that I wanted to. I just didn't know if I was quite sure about going ahead, or if my writing was good enough. They comforted me, saying kind words of encouragement — that I had done well in the past and had written some great stuff, and that surely God knew my desires were for His good.

I had to come to the conclusion that the truth was right before my eyes, but that sometimes we stop the truth from becoming reality. The group knew that I had it in me to do a great job, but doubt had crept in, and I wasn't being truthful to myself.

That night, the Holy Spirit taught me to trust in Him and not to be afraid of what may come. Jesus is always with me. The Holy Spirit is leading me to write this for you: Trust in the Lord.

Psalm 37:3-4 – Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. (NIV)

Prayer: Father, thank You that we can trust in Your Word to set us free. Your Word is truth. May Your Holy Spirit bring truth to guide us so we can do great and wonderful things because of Your grace and love for us. Amen.
