Hot Or Cold

Listen to this devotional:

Psalm 105:1 – Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! (NKJV)

Our part of Canada has recently experienced very, very cold weather and severe wind chill. After a few days of experiencing and enduring this weather, we finally ventured out into the community to church and to the stores. It was not long, though, before the conversation found its way to the weather. Amid my conversation on the weather, my comment was that it was a bit warmer that day!

The person with whom I was talking is from Brazil. She said that the weather in Canada is either hot or cold: cold until July, then it is hot. Only Canadians, she said, can take a winter which is cold and say that it is a bit warmer!

The Bible also tells us that in our relationship to God, we need to be either hot or cold, and not just "a bit warmer". This should make it very clear as to how we are to go about our days. Are we using the time that we are given to talk about Jesus and His kingdom, or are we engaging in talk about trivial matters like the weather?

Revelation 3:15-16 – I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to make our words count for You. Help us to use our words to exalt and glorify all that You do for us. We are sorry for the times that our walk and our talk are not about You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
