Ah! Christmas! Time to buy gifts for those we love. Decisions, decisions, and more decisions!
What to give your spouse!
What to give the children in your life!
What to give your sons, your daughters!
What to give your friends and family!
Will it be a new computer? The latest iPod? Should it be Guitar Hero? Maybe the latest action video games! We can so easily get caught up in the gift-buying frenzy of (retail) Christmas.
Why not consider making our gift the sharing of the story of Jesus? Christmas is, after all, the celebration of His birthday. He was born to bring us the gifts of peace, contentment, and joy; but above all, He wanted us to share His unconditional love and grace with others. What greater gift is there?
Gift-giving is a beautiful way of sharing our love with those nearest and dearest to us, but let's not forget the true meaning of Christmas, and let's not forget to say (and mean) "Happy birthday, dear Jesus!" Let us invite Him into our hearts and keep Him with us all year long.
Isaiah 9:6 – For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NIV)
Prayer: Father, when the worldly view of Christmas begins to overwhelm us, help us not to forget You and Your gift of Jesus. May we focus on what is important, and may we grow in faith and love. Amen.
