As we go into the Christmas season, I have been challenged to consider how we go about sharing the holidays in a Christ-like manner with unsaved family.

I have become more aware of the way we celebrate the birth of Jesus. I recently came across some background information on the Christmas wreath. I even found a reference to a wreath in the Scriptures.

1 Kings 7:29 – Both the panels and the crossbars were decorated with carved lions, oxen and cherubim. Above and below the lions and oxen were wreath decorations. (NLT)

The circle of a Christmas wreath is a never-ending ring, a reminder of everlasting love from our Lord and King. The Christmas wreath can be seen on many doors in our neighbourhood as a sign of welcome, inviting all to enter. This can serve as a reminder of Christ's invitation for all to come to Him. The middle of the wreath is bare and empty space — a reminder of what life would be without Christ's love and grace. The materials that wreaths are made from are usually evergreens — representing eternal life.

Each time we see a Christmas wreath hanging on a door, let us rejoice in the One the celebration of Christmas is truly for.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we never want to lose sight of the importance of Your birth. Help us to keep You in our sights amid our celebrations with family and friends. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
