Listen to this devotional:
Psalm 117:1-2 – Praise the Lord, all you nations. Praise him, all you people of the earth. For he loves us with unfailing love; the Lord's faithfulness endures forever. Praise the Lord! (NLT)
Recently, I was invited to speak to a group of people. While preparing my speech, I picked up a book that promised to give some interesting tips on how to capture the audience's attention. The author said something like, "Remember your audience will only pay attention to you for ten minutes, and if you want them back, you'd better have a good story prepared to tell them."
Ten minutes? How can you share important thoughts in ten minutes? And what story could I tell them to keep their attention? I remembered a discussion I'd had with another writer at a writers' conference. She had a similar problem — only her problem wasn't over how much time she could speak; it was with how many words she could use while writing a devotional. "The most difficult writing I have to do isn't the novel, it's the devotional. The editors give us only 150 to 250 words, and how can I tell an important truth using so few words?" she said.
Her comments started me thinking about one of my favourite Bible verses. It tells an amazing, life-changing truth and uses less than thirty words. In today's verse, I'm told to praise God because He loves me. How much does God love me? He loves me with an unfailing love. And His faithfulness endures forever!
Wow! What an astonishing promise! Almighty God promises to love each one of us with an unfailing love, not for a few hours or days, weeks, or years. He promises to love us forever!
Prayer: Dear God, we come to You in thanksgiving as we meditate on these twenty-nine powerful words, words of Yours that tell of Your unfailing love, love that is offered to each one of us, love that lasts forever. Amen.
