Banking On It

Listen to this devotional:

Do you remember when the automated teller machine (ATM) first came to your neighbourhood? What excitement! There were actually line-ups to try this new method of getting money without entering the bank.

My dad and I went to town one Saturday, and I needed gas money, so I went to the ATM. I put in my card, pressed my code, and gave instructions for the amount I needed. Dad was amazed at how a machine could just "pop out money". He wanted to get some money too, but he didn't have a card. I explained that there wasn't any "magic", as he called it, because you had to have the amount already in your bank account or the machine wouldn't give you anything. Dad has since gone to his heavenly rest, but I always think of how his eyes lit up on that first visit to the ATM.

The Bible tells us, "Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. … For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:20a,21 NKJV)

We put our faith and trust in God each day. This is how we "bank" our treasure in heaven.

Some days, we withdraw a whole lot more than our fair share. But He is patient and gently leads us along. His Word promises, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7 NKJV)

Our heavenly bank account will be increased daily as we strive to be more and more like Him. "He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30 NKJV)

Prayer: Dear God, help us today to bank on Your love and know that You are with us, helping us to become more like You. Amen.
