Not Of This World

Listen to this devotional:

I just love it when the Scriptures come to life for me, whether it is through my reading or my daily walk with the Lord.

I started out on a snowy Saturday morning to get my Tim Hortons® coffee. The trip turned out to be one of those events. No, I did not win the "roll up the rim to win"® contest, although I do like to believe that I won one better.

After a minor accident in which everyone was okay — except the car, which needed $1,700.00 in repairs — I was able to witness to the police officer, the person who hit me, and two adjusters who wrote up the repair estimates — not bad for a morning and $1,700.00. The notepad that I have in my purse has the following Scripture at the bottom of it. I was able to give this paper with my details and this Scripture on it to the police officer and the other person.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (ESV)

When it was time to get the quotes done for the car, I had the following experience. I pointed out a mark on the bumper, which was not caused by the accident; it was already there. I wanted to make sure that they didn't put it on the quote for the other person to pay for. Both persons could not believe that I was pointing it out. They said that most people would not have said anything, and then it would have been charged to the other person. I explained that I am not like most people, and as a result, I was able to share Jesus with one of them.

Philemon 1:6 – I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You that You alone are able to take the events of our lives and turn them into something that is good and glorifying to Your name. Help us to see You in all the areas and events of our lives, even when we cannot or will not see them. Help us always to be Your hands and feet to the lost of this world. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.
