Colossians 1:10 – And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. (NIV)
The time came for me to buy a new computer, and I had some decisions to make. Should I continue with a Windows PC, knowing that I would have to obtain some new software, or should I choose something totally different? After looking around, I decided to go for an Apple iMac.
It has been a struggle, like learning a new language. The learning curve has been steep, but as I grow in knowledge, doing a lot of reading and then putting it to work, I am beginning to see the light.
So it is with God's Word. When a person becomes a new Christian, the Bible seems like a gigantic mystery. The learning curve is pretty steep, and we can't expect to know everything about our new faith all at once. It helps to have other resources like commentaries or Bibles with built-in notes. It also helps to join a Bible study group, where we can check out our ideas against the interpretations of others. As God opens our eyes, we begin growing in the knowledge He wants us to have.
We don't all see things in the same way, but God speaks to each one of us so that we are given the knowledge He wills for us to have.
Colossians 2:2-3 – My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (NIV)
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, we come to You this day praying that our spiritual eyes and ears might be opened to see You and that we might come to know You through the wisdom and knowledge to be found in Your Word. Strengthen us in our struggles to grow and to do the good works that You have set before us to do. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
