We Must All Co-operate

Ephesians 6:1-3a – Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" — which is the first commandment with a promise — "that it may go well with you." (NIV)

On our way to the airport, it seemed pretty quiet, even though we had three young girls and their mother with us. At first, I thought it was because it was so early in the morning and everyone was tired.

Then, from the front seat came the mother's voice, "What did I ask from you in order to stay together and not lose anything or anyone?"

From the seat beside me came the voice of the youngest, only two years old, "We must all co-operate."

"Co-operate!" I exclaimed, thinking this was a big word for such a little girl to say, let alone to know what it meant!

Then, very quietly, the little one added, "No screaming or running around."

She had it right, and so did the others.

The very time I didn't have the camera along to capture them tagging along after their mother, suitcases in hand, there was no screaming, no running, but perfect obedience — all were co-operating.

In times that can be confusing, we all need to obey our heavenly Father, and in doing so, we will be rewarded with smooth sailing — blessed by the first commandment accompanied with a promise from God: "that it may go well with you".

Prayer: Dear Lord, as little children or just as Your children, teach us to obey, so that we might co-operate with one another, and in so doing, find Your peace, so that all may go well with us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
