Psalm 138:2 – I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your loving kindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name. (NKJV)
When people walk the same route each day, they often see the same individuals in about the same places each day. As a friend and I walked day after day and then into the next month, we would pass the same people each day. Between our chatting to one another, we would extend a "good morning" or "hello" to our fellow walkers. Each day, we would also pass two gentlemen, and they would always address us as ladies. Their salutation to us would be, "Good morning, ladies".
I soon realized that as I continued through my days, I would find myself being addressed as "Julie", "Miss", "Mrs", "M'am", "Mother", and even "Dear".
Our Saviour is known by many names. No matter which name we choose to use, each has a special place in our hearts and holds meaning for us. His name does not change with age; it remains the same today and tomorrow as it was yesterday.
Old Testament:
Immanuel: Jesus is God with us (Isaiah 7:14)
Mighty God: God Jesus is supreme (Isaiah 9:6)
Wonderful Advisor: Jesus will always rule with honesty and justice (Isaiah 9:6)
New Testament:
Lamb of God: Jesus is the sacrifice for the world's sin (John 1:29)
Saviour: Jesus is the One Who saves us from our sin (John 4:14)
Author of life: Jesus is the One Who gives life (Acts 3:15)
Alpha and Omega: Jesus is the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8)
Philippians 2:9-11 – Therefore God has also exalted him and given him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (NKJV)
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You that we can call upon Your name and that You will hear us and respond. Help us to share Your name with the people whom You draw across the paths of our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
