Driving In The Fog

1 Corinthians 13:12 – We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! (MSG)

We don't get a lot of fog in the area where we live, but we have been experiencing quite a bit lately. Recently, I had an appointment booked in a city sixty miles south, and so I left with lots of time to negotiate the fog. It was daylight, and although I did not have to contend with the dark, yet it was a long and, at times, slow trip. The road, which I had travelled many times before, now became foreign to me. I found myself trying to focus on the headlights coming towards me and the taillights of the cars ahead of me. At times, it was like I was all alone on this usually busy highway, and then suddenly out of the fog, I would see lights. I also noticed something about the lights: some of them were brighter than the others.

As I was driving, I began to think that we live in a world with many people who are lost in a spiritual fog. Yes, they have days that are bright and sunny, but they will never see reality clearly unless they have the love of Christ shining in their lives. Like the headlights, some people shine brighter than others. As Christians, our job is to bring this light to a world enshrouded in fog, even at times when our own vision is less than clear.

We are all called to bring light into this world:

1 John 2:10 – It's the person who loves brother and sister who dwells in God's light and doesn't block the light from others. (MSG)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we thank You that Your creation surrounds us and makes us aware of Your presence with us. Help us to break through the fog into the lives of those around us. We want to bring the light of Jesus into this world, and we recognize that we cannot do this without You. Thank You for Your love for us, for the price that You paid on the cross, and for Your promise that one day, we will see all things clearly. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
