Interpretation

Listen to this devotional:

2 Timothy 2:15 – Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (KJV)

My friend, Nomie, told me about her children. They were sixteen months apart, Lori being the older. One day, Lori's little brother was annoying her. When she complained to her mother, Nomie advised her, "Just ignore him." Later, when she looked in to see what was going on, Lori was jabbing him in the arm saying, "Nore, nore, nore." She didn't know what "ignore" meant.

Don't we do the same thing? Instead of finding out what the Bible means, we put our own spin (interpretation) on it. We give the words the meaning we want them to have or think they should have. This is why Bible study is so important.

2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we are often so wise in our own eyes. Please take away the scales that cloud our vision, that we may go to the source of wisdom and study Your Word. In Jesus' name, we ask this. Amen.
