Luke 3:4 – As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: "A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'" (NIV)
Through this past year, many of us have had things for which we made preparations. Personally, I prepared myself for a graduation that took two years of effort before the day became a reality.
Others have prepared for things like weddings and anniversaries, and have found that all of these took much time and effort in preparation. Though we might call it work, it was awesome when the event took place.
As we now enter the Advent season, which is the beginning of the Christian church year, we come with the same sense of anticipation as we had for the events for which we worked so hard to prepare.
Beyond our personal events in the past year, we now come together in God's love to prepare ourselves for that which was predicted by the prophet Isaiah and was fulfilled in the birth of God's Son into this world.
As we prepare for Christmas Day, may we look forward to the awesome event of Jesus birth — of His coming in hope, peace, joy, and in the love of God.
Prayer: Dear Lord, as we begin the approach to the day of the birth of Your Son Jesus the Christ, prepare our hearts and minds for the awesome work that lies ahead. Cleanse us from all sin, that we might be blessed in sharing this time of preparation with those who might not know Jesus as their Saviour. In His name, we pray. Amen.
