Exodus 14:22 – And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. (KJV)
I laughed out loud when I saw the cartoon picturing the Israelites crossing the Red Sea. There they were, the centre of a major miracle, crossing the seabed on perfectly dry ground. Banks of water towered over their heads on either side. One person looked down and cried, "Ick! A fish!"
It only takes one "Ick", doesn't it? One cranky person to spoil the party? One whiny child to wreck an outing? One seeker of all that is negative to poison a crowd?
Only a couple of months later, Moses was leading an entire crowd of "Icks". Each and every one was polluted with the spirit of grumbling and complaining.
Exodus 16:2 – In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. (NIV)
Any "Icks" where we live? God forbid that any of them would be us!
Prayer: Oh, Lord, You are the God of majesty and power. Everything You do is worthy. Today we decide to catch Your vision and not the herring and catfish along the way. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen
