Revelation 15:4 – Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed. (NIV)
These days, everything seems to be just a "click" away. We are moving at a faster pace all the time. We recently began taping the few shows that we watch on television as a family each week. I was amazed that we could reduce a one-hour show down to 45 minutes or so by fast-forwarding through the commercials with just the click of a button. On one particular evening, for some unknown reason, I decided to watch the evening news live, instead of taping. Thus I was thrown into the commercials, and I had no option but to watch them, even though my Bible was sitting right beside me. (In itself, that is material for a devotional for another time.) One particular commercial that caught my eye was for a gas station. For some time, we have had the option of paying for our gas right at the pumps. We no longer have to go inside and pay or chat with a real person. Now the companies have come up with an even quicker way to pay: we just tap or click our card or token on a special pad right at the pump. The company is advertising it as just click and go.
This got me thinking about how our fast-paced way of living takes us away from people in our everyday lives. We can do so much via the computer and Internet, and now our gas is even click and go, so that if we aren't careful, we could end up not going out into the world at all. How then would we be able to share the good news with the world around us?
Acts 13:47 – [We're] following orders, doing what God commanded when he said, I've set you up as light to all nations. You'll proclaim salvation to the four winds and seven seas! (MSG)
Prayer: Dear Jesus, we are truly sorry, and we repent for the times when we have chosen to do things in our everyday life that take us away from sharing with other people the good news of who You are in our lives. Help us always to be a light unto the world. Amen.
