The Beauty Of Silent Music

Listen to this devotional:

1 Chronicles 16:29 – Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! (NKJV)

Recently, I attended a women's conference. This was my first time attending such an event. After getting myself comfortable in the auditorium, I made sure that I had an unobstructed view and that I was comfortable for the evening. As the worship began, my eyes fell upon a person standing to the right-hand side of the platform, and I became totally entranced by her actions. She was signing to the people who were directly in front of her. As my ears were being blessed by the music, my eyes and heart were transfixed on this lady's hands. It was the most amazing experience to be hearing the worship and being witness to the music as she put it into words with her hands for the people. The motions of her hands gave a whole different dimension to the words I was hearing. They gave such vivid pictures to the words. As the evening went on, this person and another person took turns signing for the conference, and I realized how tiring this must have been for them.

As I reflected on how I had wanted to make sure I had a clear view and was comfortable, I began to think about how important this was to me. It challenged me to take a broader view of my own comfort and how I take things for granted at times.

I felt led to pray and praise the Lord for the people whom He had called into service for Him for that evening. The Lord had put into place a person who would be His voice to the ladies for the evening.

Psalm 100:2 – Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we are so very thankful that we are able to come to You in worship and in the Word. Thank You for the people whom You have called to share Your love and message with us, through worship, prayer, and the Word. Thank You that we are able to receive it with our eyes, our ears, and our senses. You have left no detail unconsidered, and for that we are truly blessed. Help us to hear Your voice when we are called into service in Your ministry to others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
