Ephesians 1:3 – Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. (NIV)
Several weeks ago, my friend, Wendy, a divorced mom with three kids, told me that her microwave had died. She was really sad about this turn of events and wondered how she could possibly afford another one. A week or two later, she lost her job as well. From then on, I kept my eyes out for a used microwave or one on sale for her. It didn't seem right to buy her a new one, so I stopped looking. I went to several garage sales — but no microwave. About that time, God said, "Call Vivian, you haven't seen her for awhile at church; call Vivian."
I didn't call Vivian. "I'll do it later."
Several days later, "Call Vivian."
"Well, not right now, I don't have time." Then, since I hadn't seen Vivian for a while, I became concerned about whether or not she was okay. But still I didn't call her. This went on for several weeks. Finally, one Saturday morning, I was sitting at the computer playing a game; when I heard a clear distinct voice say, "Call Vivian, now!"
That totally got my attention. "Okay, okay, I get the message!"
But then I thought to myself, maybe I'll just have a shower first. "Call Vivian now!!"
"Okay, okay, I'm right on it, Lord!"
I called Vivian. She said, "I'm having a garage sale, so I can't talk long."
Immediately I said, "Do you have a microwave?" and she said that she did. "How much is your microwave?" "Twenty dollars." I told her that it was for Wendy, and she brought the price down to ten dollars.
What a miracle! Look what happened when I finally listened to God's voice! I was so excited that I called Wendy and told her about how God had blessed us. God is good to us! All we have to do is listen and do what He tells us to do, and then we will be blessed. Praise God!
Prayer: Our gracious heavenly father, thank You for being so very patient with us. Thank You that You wait for Your children to obey, rather than taking away the blessing if we don't do it the first time. You are a God full of mercy. Thank You, God, and bless us this day as we listen to Your voice. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
