I'll Be Your Shadow

Listen to this devotional:

Psalm 17:8 – Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings. (NKJV)

I recently started a new job. It was explained that a part of the training was to include what they call "shadow shifts", which means I would be an extra staff for the shift. I was to work with the other staff, watching and asking questions as needed.

As I went through the shift, I did ask many questions, and I found this to be a great way to learn the job and to get more comfortable in my role. On the ride home, I was reflecting on my time, and I felt the Lord impress the following upon me: "You were a shadow to the person you were working with, and you asked her many questions. I too was there with you for you to shadow, waiting for you to turn to Me in prayer and ask me questions. I will always be with you for you to shadow, for you to turn to Me."

It was a very humbling time for me, as I had to agree in my heart that the Lord is always there for us, waiting for us. Do we think of God as a companion for us to shadow, Who wants to be in communion with us in all that we do? How much more effective we could be in the things we do if we kept the following verse close to our hearts:

Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we are sorry for the times when we do not include You in all that we do. Thank You that You are always there for us, waiting for us to invite You in. Thank You for Your love and Your sacrifice on the cross, enabling us to have eternal life and a relationship with You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
