Song of Solomon 8:5 – Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? (KJV)
A while back, I was struggling in many areas of my life. Everywhere I turned, I was faced with another hurdle to climb over.
Then one day, I read our verse for today. The bride was leaning upon her beloved. I imagine she was leaning because she wanted to be close to him, or she was leaning for support. Maybe she was ill at the time and needed physical support. Or perhaps she needed emotional support — or spiritual support. That day, the Lord said to me, "Lean hard. I know your burden. Lean hard, and let Me feel the pressure of your cares."
When I was at work that day, I leaned hard against the wall, picturing that wall to be Jesus Christ. I told God that I couldn't carry on, that I needed Him, and that I was leaning hard on Him. He knew my burden. That was a comfort as well. Bit by bit that day, the burden lifted. Were the struggles all over? Absolutely not — but the burden was lighter.
Let's remember to lean hard on Jesus — in the bad times but also in the good times as well.
Matthew 11:28 – Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. (MSG)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, life is rough at times, but You never promised us a rose garden. Help us to lean hard on You and to trust You at all times. Amen.
