Revelation 22:5 – There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. (NKJV)
For a few months now, I have been struggling with sleep. Each morning from 4:00 a.m. onward, I am wide awake and ready to start my day.
I recently attended a workshop where we were given some passages from the Bible and told to look one up. We were asked to spend time with the Lord and pray about the passage we chose. My passage was the following:
Isaiah 40:31 – But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (NKJV)
As I was reading and praying about this passage, the Lord began to reveal something to me. In the background, there was worship music being played, and the song that was being played began to resonate in me. The Lord then began to speak to me through the words of the song. "In a quiet place I will wait for You." I had accepted the Lord in the night almost four years before; He had taken me from the darkness and brought me into the light. The Lord has been waiting for me in the night.
As I began to focus on this revelation, I began to realize that even though I have not been sleeping well, I do not look tired, and I am not feeling or acting tired during the day. In the past, when I have had sleeplessness, it has flowed over into my day. The Lord has been carrying me through these days; He has been waiting for me in the quiet of the night.
As I went to bed that night, I knew my nights would never be the same again, as I was holding on to the revelation, "In a quiet place I will wait for You."
We all go through times in our lives when sleep is a difficulty. How reassuring it is to know that the Lord waits for us! Let us turn our cares over to Him in the stillness of the night, and use this time to sing, pray, and worship Him.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You that You wait for us in all situations; even in the darkness, You are there for us, providing light and comfort. We praise and adore You for being the same today and tomorrow in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
