Proverbs 17:22 – A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired. (MSG)
Recently, I had surgery to remove a whopping seven-pound mass from around my right ovary. According to a friend who was in the operating room viewing the surgery, the mass had the looks of a seven-pound ham with a variety of colours. My friend says that if she looks at the bad things in terms of food, which is something she quite enjoys, those things don't seem so horrible. When she told me this, I was lying in my bed, post-surgery, with a room full of people, and my first thought was to laugh.
Let's take a moment and ponder that thought. Today's Scripture passage says, "A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone tired." How does that cliché go? — "Attitude determines your altitude".
Why worry about the bad in life? God promises us that He has "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV) So, let's wipe that frown off our faces, and smile.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we come to You in praise, for Your promises for a bright future are evident all around us. Remind us of this through the times we consider bad. Thank You for Your love! Amen.
