Thunder

Listen to this devotional:

John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. (NASB)

During the summer, we have ferocious thunderstorms. Often, these storms are in the middle of the night. The thunder wakes me up, and I lie awake until the storm passes.

My dad, on the other hand, would sleep his best during a thunderstorm. When he was visiting us quite a few years ago, I asked him if he had heard the thunder during the night. It had been very loud. He hadn't heard a thing and slept like a baby.

I saw in my dad such a complete trust in God in every situation in his life. Such strength he had in the adverse events of his life. I'm sure this is why he had complete peace and rest in the storms. Only Jesus can give us that peace. He has promised it to us as seen in the verse for today. Are we claiming it as ours? Or are we letting that gift lie by the wayside, unused?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You promised to give us Your peace. Help us to claim that promise when life is going nicely, as well as when the storms hit. Amen.
