Reasoning With God

Listen to this devotional:

Job 23:6-7 – Would He contend with me by the greatness of His power? No, surely He would pay attention to me. There the upright would reason with Him; and I would be delivered forever from my Judge. (NASB)

I'm sure we have all had times with family or friends when we need to reason things out with them. I remember a few years ago when I was trying to reason some difficult things out with some friends. None of us was seeing the others' viewpoint at all. It caused a lot of hard feelings. It seemed that they weren't paying attention to what I was saying, and maybe they felt the same way about me. Were we not willing to try to understand the others' viewpoints? I don't know.

What I do know is that God always pays attention to us. In today's Scripture, Job reflects on the great truth that the upright are able to reason with God. This tells me that I need to be honest with God. I can reason with Him, and He will listen to me. It amazes me that a righteous God is willing to listen to me and hear my side of the story. He doesn't judge me nor condemn me. He allows me to say what I need to tell Him. And yes, He reasons with me. He talks very plainly to me. How I praise Him for that!

Let's remember that God will always pay attention to us — no matter what spot we are at in our lives. He will listen to us, and we can reason with Him.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for paying attention to us. Thank You for listening to us. Thank You for allowing us to reason with You. You are a great God. We love You. Amen.
