Losses

Romans 8:28 – That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. (MSG)

About five years ago, I was struggling in my job with patients with Alzheimer's disease, and the shift work was getting harder the older I got. So I chose to quit my job. It was a loss. Close to the same time, I had a really bad kitty that I chose to give away. This was another loss. Then shortly afterwards, my dad passed away! Another loss — a huge loss!

The losses kept piling up. I felt overwhelmed. I had so much grieving to do. As is normal in the grieving process, I went through many emotions: anger, sadness, depression, a ray of hope, despair. It took a long time to grieve and heal.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4a – All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. (MSG)

I know now that all those losses came at the same time so that I would lean on Jesus. He is our Comforter and Healer. He drew me to Himself during this time. All things do work together for good to those who love the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, so many times we can't see any light at the end of the tunnel. The process seems too long. Help us to claim the promises in Your Word that will comfort us. Amen.
