The Quiet Game

Listen to this devotional:

Psalm 46:10 – Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. (NIV)

Psalm 46:10 – Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything. (MSG)

When I was little, a favourite game of my older brother and sisters for me to play was "Who can be the quietest?" The quietest would receive some kind of prize — a piece of bubble gum, or a special treat at the ice cream store, or something else.

For some reason or another, I didn't always win. Silence is golden, true enough, but in my case, noise is a necessity.

As a teenager and a young adult, however, I earned money by babysitting, and one of my favourite games with the kids was the Quiet Game — anything to get peace for five minutes, ten minutes, whatever they could give me.

God requires that we play the Quiet Game from time to time so that we can receive His words, His instructions, and perhaps, His blessings.

Are we ready to play the Quiet Game?

Prayer: Dear God, it is not always easy to be silent in the world where noise seems to be a necessity for survival. Thank You for the opportunities play the Quiet Game. Amen.
