Colossians 1:17 – He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (NIV)
My lifestyle has always included a few more commitments and responsibilities than I have time to handle without stress. I get caught up in my swirl of activities — rushed, pulled, tugged, driven — until I'm bent out of shape. Then the thought comes to me — "In Christ all things hold together" — and I know that if I cast my anchor in His direction, He'll steady my complex swirl of activities and hold them together.
I think of the universe and the planet earth: both are extremely active, but God holds all together and in perfect balance.
The science of physiology has a word, homeostasis, which means that when all parts of the body are working together in perfect balance, it has good health. Our creator God made our body and His universe both to work in perfect balance. Why should we doubt His ability to keep the mind and soul together?
When we are overwhelmed with many things, if we but remember the One Who is before everything and in everything, He will help us find the balance that will hold our lives together as we attempt to do His work.
Prayer: Lord, when our lives become topsy-turvy and it seems we are about to explode, remind us that You hold all things together and can keep us in perfect balance when we focus our minds on You. Amen.
