I recently had a business meeting, and the person with whom I was speaking said that she had never won in the rolling-up-the-edge-of-the-cup contest that was going on. Each year, many of the coffee shops in our area print prizes under the rims of the cups, so when one buys coffee, one gets an opportunity to win a free doughnut, or a cookie — even a barbecue or a car.
She told me that she had never received a prize from this. Then she said that some people have a "karma" about them and they win all the time, and she shared example after example. As I was listening, and in my own strength, I tried to think about how I could share the Word of God with her, because "karma" is not a biblical principle. I was not able to think of a single thing to say. Opportunity lost. I am sure that many of our readers have lots of ideas of things that I could have said; I also now have many as well.
As I assessed my own actions, I was reminded that I had not prayed before going to this meeting. When I was in the situation, I had not invited Jesus to help me with speaking to this lady.
Ephesians 6:13 – Be prepared. You're up against far more than you can handle on your own. (MSG)
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, help us to be ready to witness in all situations of life; help us to be ready all the time. We are sorry for the times we have missed the opportunities to share Your light. We confess that at times we enter the world unprepared. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
