Hebrews 13:14 – For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our city in heaven, which is yet to come. (NLT)
For our ninth-grade granddaughter, Faith, homecoming was an exciting time. Her long, beautiful, red hair mingled well with the green and gold colours of her cheerleading uniform.
Excitement exuded from the school student body at their afternoon pep rally. That night after the Homecoming Court was presented, the basketball players put forth extreme effort to claim victory for their team.
I thanked God for allowing me to share this delightful time with our young granddaughter.
Another homecoming is on the agenda for those who know Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. We are counselled not to become too attached to our earthly possessions, because everything in this world is temporary.
Our new homecoming will be called the Holy City — the new Jerusalem. It will be a place where God removes all our sorrows. No crying, no pain, and no more death describes it appropriately.
Homecoming was a happy time in Faith's physical journey. It does not compare, though, with the homecoming in the sky when all things are made new. God Himself will be there among His people.
Prayer: Lord, we are ready for that new homecoming that You have promised. Help us to share with others about this exciting event when we will join our wonderful Lord in our final homecoming. Amen.
