Meant For Him

Romans 8:28 – We know also that those who love God, those who have been called in terms of his purpose, have his aid and interest in everything. (Moffatt)

Two memorable events stand out from the past year. First, my church gave me a lovely open house and card shower for my ninetieth birthday. There were 112 who signed the guest book, and I received nearly 200 cards!

The second? A friend had three cars and wanted me to have one of them, a 1990 four-cylinder four-door car with brand new tires. I prayed seriously about it beforehand, because I had to take money from my savings to buy it.

About a month later, I banged into a friend's parked pick-up. As his parting shot, the officer who investigated the accident said, "Your car is totalled." I was stunned. Five Christian men said, "No, it isn't!" They did the necessary bodywork themselves. Three Christian organizations picked up the tab. When one of these wonderful folks returned my car, he said, "Alice, we had more money offered than we needed, and so we got you a set of personalized license plates."

This entire episode reminded me of a quote from the great man of God, Oswald Chambers: "If you love Jesus, you will have things done for you that aren't meant for you at all; they are meant for Him."

I am amazed at the great goodness of God and of His people. I have had a long life with many wonderful privileges, so many of them completely undeserved, and so many of which would not have come to pass, had I not said "Yes" to Jesus years ago. May God yet grant each of us the joy and privilege of blessing others as we offer our service and give our gifts to Him.

Jeremiah 29:11-14a – I keep in mind my purpose for you, a purpose of weal, not of woe, to let you have hope for the future; pray to me and I will answer you; seek me, and you shall find me; when you seek for me will all your heart, I will reveal myself to you. (Moffatt)

Prayer: Loving God, we thank You for the many opportunities You provide for us to serve You by serving others. Fill us with the desire to be Your loving servants. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
