Matthew 9:9 – And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. (KJV)
The other day when we were in the mall, I saw a tiny little girl walking by herself. I was concerned, so looked around for a parent. Sure enough, there was her daddy a few feet in front of her, walking slowly. After a short time, he turned and walked backwards, I'm sure to make certain she was still following him. When she saw him turn around, she did the same thing, now walking backwards as she followed him. The dad, smiling broadly, turned and walked frontwards again. Soon, the little daughter turned and walked frontwards as well. The tiny little girl had her eyes on her dad and followed his every move.
Seeing the little girl with her dad reminded me of Matthew in today's Scripture. We are to rise up and follow Jesus. We can accomplish this by spending time reading God's Word, studying it, meditating on it, and applying the principles we learn to our lives. Let's follow Jesus every step of the way.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, deep in our hearts, we want to become more like You. Help us to keep our eyes on You and follow in Your every footstep. Amen.
